Douglas “Doug” “Tarheel” Richard Poston, 64, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Doug was born March 20, 1961, to the late Clyde Poston and Peggy Summers Poston. He was known to many by his CB radio handle, “Tarheel.” He worked for Kewaunee, Dana, Southern Prestige and Village Inn, and he also delivered newspapers.

Left to cherish Doug’s memory are his wife, Nanette Napton Poston; daughter, Amber Poston; son, Tyler Poston; brother, David Poston (Dana); sisters, Karen Williams (Wayne), Alice Ponders and Christina Anderson (Charles); cousin, Danny Summers (Eunice); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m.
