
Fred “Tootie” Boyd Houston, 89, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025. A native of Iredell County, he was born on January 31, 1936, to Fred Dwight Houston and Blanche Campbell Houston.
Fred proudly served his country as a Signalman in the United States Navy and later worked for the United States Postal Service. A genuine and faithful Christian, he served his church as a Deacon and as a Sunday School teacher.
He was a kind and generous man who would give the shirt off his back, but most of all he was a dedicated family man who will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Paul Houston and Bobby Houston.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nina Houston; his sons, Kevin Boyd Houston and Kelby Lang Houston (Lisa); his daughter, Eva Houston Wing (Greg); and his sister, Juanita Massey (Dale). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Scottie Windsor, Bryan Windsor, Kyle Houston, Kortney Houston, Tarayan Little, Stephanie Earnest, and Kailee Houston, as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville. Mr. Houston’s funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Troutman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Iredell Memorial Park.
