Gail Lucas Batchelor, 74, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on May 1, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., after a brief illness. Gail was born in Wilson, N.C., on October 22, 1950, to Roman Lee Lucas and Daisy Collette Liles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Janice Wilson.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dennis Batchelor; sister, Sonia Beach (Sid) of Wilson; daughter, Shannon Russell (Jeff) of Lexington; son, Trevor Batchelor (Renee Jewell) of Statesville; and Brother-In-Law Earl Wilson of Black Creek. Gail had seven grandchildren, Jessica Ward, Madison Hauser (Draven), Melodie Batchelor, Andrew Batchelor, Gabriel Jewell-Batchelor, Eastman Jewell-Batchelor, and Tobias Jewell-Batchelor. She had five great-grandchildren, Kinsley Mae Ward, Mona Grace Batchelor, Emmie Blake Ward, Finn Wyatt Batchelor, and Samuel Draven Hauser. Additionally, she is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Gail was an active member of Rocky Mount Church of Mooresville. She was known for the hundreds of prayer shawls that she knitted that provided comfort to those enduring illnesses. She was also known for her legendary coconut cake. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her sharp wit, spunky outlook, and her determination for life.

The family would like to offer their appreciation to the LVAD team of doctors and nurses at Carolinas Medical Center (Atrium Health) who became an extension of her family over the past eleven years. They would also like to acknowledge the care team at the Gordon Hospice House of Statesville who allowed her comfort and rest in her final days. The family is deeply grateful to her church family and many special friends who kept her in their thoughts and prayers daily.

There will be a graveside service at Rocky Mount Church (1739 Perth Road, Mooresville) on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, The American Heart Association, or The American Cancer Society.
