
Gene Franklin Willis, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away at his home on Friday, December 19, 2025.
Born on November 13, 1937, in Lincolnton, N.C., Gene was the son of the late Doctor and Mary Bingham Willis. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a beloved papaw who found his greatest joy in his family. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran, and after being discharged, he spent many years working at UPS before retiring and was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church in Mooresville.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Shoemaker; his brother, Grady Willis; his son, Todd Willis; and his grandson, Aaron Willis.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Velma “Cissy” Willis; sons, Joshua Willis, Jordan Willis and wife Brittany; daughter-in-law, Anna Willis; sister, Hazel Hagler; his brother, Ray Willis and wife Marie; five grandchildren, Abby, Anna Grace, Emma Grace, James, and Luke; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Rylan; and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.
He enjoyed many hobbies, especially hunting, fishing at the Outer Banks, playing cards, and throwing horseshoes.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, from 12 to 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. David Klinedinst and Rev. Hal D. Greene. Burial will follow at Glenwood Memorial Park.
