
Gerald “Gerri” Sue Lapish Miller was a loving and caring person and a wonderful Mother, Wife and friend. She received a new day on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when the Lord called her home and released her from the condition of dementia/Alzheimer’s.
She was born on March 15, 1938, to the late Kerfees Lee and Mary Sain Lapish.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Pauline DeHart, Lawrence Lapish, Martha Lapish, Raymond (Shag) Lapish, James (Clint) Lapish, Irene Guback and Leon (Boney) Lapish.
On September 22, 1962, she married Herman Dean Miller, who survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Tracy Miller, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Gerri was a Statesville Senior High School graduate, Class of 1956. Gerri worked for JC Penney retail store after high school as a credit manager, bookkeeper and occasionally a purchasing agent for the styles offered by the store in the late 1950s and early 1960s. She was the church secretary at Western Avenue Baptist Church (where she attended her entire life) from the late 1960s to early 1970s. She was the Second Grade Sunday School teacher for many years at the original site of the church on Western Avenue. In the mid-1970s she joined her husband in the family business as the bookkeeper and retired with her husband Dean in 2002. Gerri enjoyed watching sports, especially the MLB Atlanta Braves baseball and the Men’s Duke Basketball Team. She and her husband Dean attended many, many sports events watching their daughter play in recreational ball, high school ball as well as college ball. Gerri and her husband Dean also enjoyed traveling and have been in all 48 continental states of the USA as well as Hawaii twice. The two started their yearly travels back in the early 1990s and enjoyed seeing our beautiful USA.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, November 17, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Western Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Spry will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at a later date to be determined.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of Statesville, Hospice of Mooresville or Western Avenue Baptist Church.
