
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Harold Thomas Smith, 83, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, N.C. His death follows a recent fall he had on September 22.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Bristol Baptist Church, where he was a member, in Statesville, N.C. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 p.m. until 3 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at South River Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Reidsville, Harold was born on November 3, 1941, to the late Harold Woodrow and Lillie Mae (Somers) Smith. He graduated in 1960 from West Rowan High School in Salisbury, N.C., and worked as a master electrician by trade. Harold’s interests included genealogy and music, especially the guitar.
Harold was a devout Christian, a patriotic American and a strong supporter of veterans and their families. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and, until recently, he served as Chaplain of both DAV Posts 65 and 68.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Vera Jane Carithers and Faye Ogletree; and his stepbrother, Evans Lee Hiatt.
He is survived by his sisters, Delma Smith Tucker (Charles) and Denise Diane Yount (Gene); and his half-sister, Virginia Smith Maples. He is also survived by his niece, Jennifer Barrow (Phil); his two nephews, Jeff Yount (Elle) and Chris Yount (Chrystal); and four great-nephews, Ethan and Ollie Yount and Trey Barrow (Paige) and Luke Barrow (Baylie). Harold also leaves behind a very special friend, Kirby Nell Hills.
Donations may be made in Harold’s memory to Bristol Baptist Church or South River Baptist Church; Home Instead in Statesville; Beacon Place in Greensboro; or to American Legion Hurst Turner Post 65 or DAV Harold Littlefield Chapter 68, both in Statesville.
