Howard Wayne Jenkins, better known as “Flip”, 84, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Taylorsville House after years of declining health. He was born January 26, 1941, in Alexander County, the son of the late Pleas Marson Jenkins and Lois Stafford Jenkins.
Howard proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. After 20 years of service, he retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrel Mack and Ronnie Carroll Jenkins; and a sister, Linda Fay Jenkins Robinson.
Those left to cherish and honor Howard’s memories include his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Jenkins of the home; his sons, Michael Jenkins (Jacqui) of Hiddenite, and Eric Jenkins of Hickory; two grandchildren, Bradley Jenkins of Hickory, and McKenna Jenkins of Hiddenite; a sister, Kay Jenkins Chapman (Hall); a brother, Dale Jenkins of Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a special life-long friend, Elbert Harrington.
The body will lie-in-state from 4:30 until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at White Plains Baptist Church with a service to follow at 5 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by Alexander County Veterans Honor Guard. The N.C. State Color Guard will also be present.
