Iona “Sissy” Coleman Collins, 66, of Harmony, N.C., passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025. Sissy was born in McDowell County, W.Va., to the late Jesse and Bernice Ruth Vanover Coleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard, George and James Coleman, and her sister, Cathy Coleman.
Sissy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bobby Lee Collins, of the home. They were married on November 21, 1974. Also surviving are a son Justin Jared Collins (Megan) of Harmony; daughters Linda Sue Matney of Harmony, Bobby Jo Collins (fiance’ Lee Johnson) of Statesville, Jessicia Marie Huddleston (Shawn) of Oak Hill, W.Va. A special daughter, Sasha Gibson (James) of Palm Bay, Fla., also survives her. Her brothers, Jesse Coleman (Sandy) of Rocky Gap, Va., Norman Coleman (Brenda) of Iaeger, W.Va., and Thomas Coleman of Iaeger, W.Va., survive her along with her sisters, Donnie Ratcliff (Donald) of Iaeger and Tammy Cecil (Bill) of Premier, W.Va. Twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren (and a great-granddaughter on the way) also survive her. Sissy’s brothers-in-law, Larry Collins of Hiddenite, David Collins (Charlene) also of Hiddenite, and Mark Collins of Statesville; sisters-in-law, Kathy Calhoun and Doretha Ochs (Mike), both of Statesville, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews also survive her.
A receiving of friends for Sissy will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Ave, Statesville, N.C. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 6 p.m. A second receiving of friends in Bluefield, W.Va., will occur Friday, May 30, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, in Bluefield, W.Va. A graveside and committal service will occur Friday, May 30, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 3410 Coal Heritage Road in Bluefield, W.Va.
