James A. Houpe, affectionately called Jamie, passed away peacefully at his home on July 5, 2025. Jamie was a fun loving person with an infectious laugh and an unwavering faith and love for God. He enjoyed spending time with his family and church family. He loved to mow grass, and he enjoyed frying fish at the family and church gatherings. Jamie will be missed by all.

Jamie was born November 9, 1958, to his beloved parents, the late Plaize and Mary Ruth Campbell Houpe. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Patricia Houpe, Ellen Houpe, Linda Houpe, Plaize Wayne Houpe Jr. (Bo), and Earnest Clifton Houpe.

He attended Rowan County schools and graduated from West Rowan High School in 1976. Jamie was a volunteer firefighter at Rowan Iredell Volunteer Fire Department, and he would help anyone in need. Jamie was a faithful member of the Rockhill Church of Christ. He loved to tell people about God and his church and preach the Gospel. His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Jamie leaves to cherish his memory his wife Prudence Stevenson Houpe; a daughter, Chasidy (Caderis) Heath; a loving grandson and granddaughter who were also his caregivers, Nicholas and Elizabeth Stevenson; three great granddaughters, Tori Stevenson, Jayden Stevenson and Koraleigh Stevenson; sister, Linda Dalton; his brothers-in-law, Magellan (Cindy) Stevenson Jr. and James Daye; sisters-in-law, Malvia Houpe, Daphne Stevenson Daye, and Rayneil Poole; his best friend, Chuck (Sharon) Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
