James Charles Mullis Sr., 95, of Harmony, N.C., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

Born on January 1, 1930 in Iredell County, N.C., he was the son of the late Henry Clay Mullis and Rosa Bell Smith Mullis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille York, Pauline Peterson, and Ola Mae Daniels, and one brother, Henry Paul Mullis.

A proud veteran, James honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He spent his life as a devoted farmer and gardener, finding great joy in working the land and tending his crops. James was a lifelong and faithful member of Winthrop Friends Meeting in Harmony, where his faith and service to the Lord were evident in all he did. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 69 years, Shelby Jean Padgette Mullis; son, James C. (Angela Lane) Mullis Jr.; daughter, Kathy (Michael) Dobbins; grandchildren, Lindsey (Scott) Cearlock and Jordan (Joe) Kesler; and great-grandchildren, James Michael Cearlock and Charles Porter Kesler.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Winthrop Friends Meeting Cemetery in Harmony with Pastor Georgianne Hartline officiating. Full military honors will be rendered in recognition of James’ service.
