James Coley, 83, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025.

James was born on August 15, 1941, to the late James (Jim) and Brownie Coley of Statesville. James was a very talented artist, craftsman and mechanic. He had a love for golfing, fishing and hunting. His passion was restoring vintage vehicles, and he belonged to the Local Street Rod Association. James worked at Scarborough and Bell & Howard Chevrolet from 1966 – 2003. He was a lifetime member of Fifth Street Church of God and Landmark Church of God, serving in the capacity of Choir Director and the Elder Board. James loved paying it forward by teaching others the crafts he had come to master in his lifetime.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Byrd Coley; brothers Charlie, Thomas, Jerry, Billy, and John; and sisters, Brenda and Sue.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Tina Stephens (Jeff) of Statesville, Donna Lambert (Dennis) of Charlottesville, Va., and Kisha Guillen (Angel) of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren, Travis Lambert (Brooke) of Crozet, Va., Andrew Stephens of Statesville, Emileigh Conley (Seth) of Linville, Va., Christofer Keene (Cayla) of Anchorage, Alaska, Aaron Stephens (Caitlin) of Harmony, N.C., Elizabeth Stephens of Statesville, Rebekah Keene Hedgspeth (Chaz) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Isabel Guillen of Anchorage, Alaska; and seven great-grandchildren, Parker Lambert, Natalie Lambert, Knox Conley, Brixton Conley, Maddie Kay Stephens, Zayden Hedgspeth, and Grayson Keene.

Funeral services will be held at Landmark Church of God, 2200 East Broad Street, Statesville, on Tuesday, May 20, with a viewing at 1 p.m. and service at 3 p.m., officiated by Bishop Phil Pearson.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Hospice home health care workers and the Gordon Hospice House for the wonderful care given to James. A special thank you to all the family and friends who have reached out with love and support during this time.
