
James Edward Clement, 82, was born in Davie County on June 30, 1943, and was the son of the late William Edward Clement and Betrice Coulter Clement. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, N.C. following an extended illness. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise “Weezy” Tabor Clement; an infant child, Alice Louise Clement; a brother, William Ray Clement; and a sister, Evelyn “Sis” Clement; and in-laws, Betty Stringer, Willie Tabor, Edward Tabor, and Andrew Tabor.
“Brown Sugar,” as he was affectionately called, graduated from Davie County Trading School in 1962, and retired in 2005 from the Davie County School System. He shared a business with his brother, William Clement, the B and R Cleaning Service, from 1972 through 2006. He was a member of Road Rams Motorcycle Club and D Cruiser Car Club. He served faithfully with the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee.
He was married to Margaret Louise Tabor Clement for over 58 years.
He leaves to celebrate and remember the blessing of his life his children, Keith (Anita) Roberts of Covina, Calif., and Leah “Shellie” Chunn and Jaime (Lemuel) Nichols, both Mocksville; four grandchildren, Chavis (Yenny) Chunn, Candance Chunn, and Xiia Tillman, all of Mocksville, and Amari Tillman of Charlotte; one great grandchild, Xiquan Smith of Mocksville; two sisters, Martha Clement of Mocksville and Jackie Tabor of Charlotte; one brother-in-law, Dewain (Patsy) Tabor of Statesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Family, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 287 Cedar Grove Church Road, Mocksville, NC 27028. Mr. Clement will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 10 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 12 until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
