James “Jimmy” Monroe Covington, 91, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

He was born on October 10, 1934, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late John Henry Covington and Roxie Barnette Covington. Mr. Covington was a 1952 graduate of Brawley High School in Mooresville and retired from McCall Chair Company. He was a member of Shearer Presbyterian Church in Mooresville. Mr. Covington was an accomplished woodworker, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted Christian and a man that you could always depend on.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lucy Hager, Evelyn McAllister, and Geneva Parker; and brothers, Loyd Barnette, John R. Covington, Horace Covington, William Covington, and Henry Covington; and grandson, Christopher Craven.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy Hager Covington; children, James “Buster” Covington Jr. (Kathy), Beverly Covington, and Jeffrey Covington (Rhonda); grandchildren, Justin Covington (Amber), Daniel Covington, Amber Covington, Taylor Craven (Wade), and Jason Covington (Kayleigh); great grandchildren, Brayden, Avery, Morgan, Mark, Raleigh, Macie, Taylor, Cameron, and Caden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 9, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Wade Malloy, Rev. Dr. Steve Stout, and Cory Wing officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.
