James R. Ferguson of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away December 14, 2025, with family around him. Jim lived his early life in Liledoun and later in Wittenburg on Lake Hickory. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Raymond Stanley Ferguson and Sue Ramsey Johnston Ferguson of Liledoun.
His survivors include his wife, Dottie Warren Ferguson, and his son and stepson, James Ross Ferguson and wife Katie and William Woodrow Elder and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Will Elder and Jenna Elder; and his sister, Laura Faucette, along with her children, Elizabeth and William.
Jim was very proud of his Presbyterian faith and background. He was a quiet man of few words. Family, friends, his critters and dogs, Abby and Bonnie, meant the world to him.
Jim graduated from NC State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and then attended UNC where he received his MBA degree. Years later, he served on the math and science foundation at NC State. One of his first jobs was with Superior Cable in Hickory. They transferred him to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas, where he was plant manager for several years before returning to Hickory and opening his own business. Self-employment was where he was always happiest.
He was an avid British car fan. In 2009 he was awarded the best MGA 1500 of the Year by the National MGA Registry at a show in Hot Springs, Ark. He bought his 1959 MGA in boxes and built it from the ground up. His other British car is a Riley Elf.
Jim hosted several British car events. One was the national event in Asheville, N.C., and a couple others were with the Key West British Car Club in Key West, Fla. Jim enjoyed travel and was lucky to tour the United States and Canada in his MGA, and he was also able to travel throughout Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. His wife and family will dearly miss his presence and hope to be reunited with him in heaven.
Donations in his honor can be made to Reformation Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
