James W. Sherrill, 88, affectionately known as “Buddy,” was born in Iredell County on August 3, 1937, to the late Roger Sherrill and Ray Ella Sherrill. He entered into eternal life on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, N.C.

His uncles, Val Sherrill, Dupree Sherrill, and J.C. Sherrill; and aunts, Mary Lucy Sherrill, Mary Joyce Houpe and Eva Kurt, also preceded him in death.

James was a member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church, where he served on the Male Choir, and he was the Church Custodian. His hobbies were cutting grass and working on small engine repairs and baseball, and he loved westerns. He will truly be missed.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life two sisters, Mary Jane Sherrill and Patricia (Rev. Winford) Griffin, both of Statesville; one nephew, Dr. Kenston (Sherry P) Griffin of Denver; two great nieces, Bellany Monroe Griffin and Keirston Griffin; and other relatives and friends, including his church members.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church, Statesville, N.C. Visitation will be held from 12 to 12:30 p.m. Dr. Dietrich Morrison-Danner will deliver the eulogy and burial will follow in the Clark’s Chapel Cemetery, Statesville, N.C.
