Jerry and Evelyn Robinson were reunited in their Heavenly home on May 21, 2025, when Evelyn passed peacefully after a period of declining health. Jerry preceded Evelyn in death two years earlier. Until Jerry’s passing in 2023, they were inseparable. They were married on August 2, 1974. They spent 48 wonderful years together serving God, their families, friends, and the communities they were a part of. Jerry and Evelyn had a special place in their hearts for children and served numerous youth groups throughout the years. Though they never had any children of their own, they claimed their many nieces and nephews as their own and loved each one as such. Jerry and Evelyn also loved their fur babies wholeheartedly; especially Brownie, their chocolate lab; Nugget, their golden retriever; and most recently, Angel and Lucy.
Jerry was a shining example of a servant for the Lord. He truly cared for others and wanted each person he met to know God and be saved by His grace. He was known to pass out little round-to-its (if you know, you know). It was so important for him to share the Love of God with all those he met. He had an amazing sense of humor and was always happily humming or whistling. He selflessly served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard. Proudly, he retired from both as a Master Sargeant. During his time in the Air Force, Jerry met a beautiful waitress named Evelyn while stationed in Montana. They married soon after and lived in various places over the years but eventually settled in Jerry’s hometown of Charlotte, N.C. They recently retired in Jacksonville, N.C., so they could be close to the ocean, which they both loved.
Evelyn was known for her huge tender heart and kind smile. She worked as an Executive Assistant for many years. She also spent much of her time caring for others. She took great pride in caring for her mother “Bert” and numerous other family members and friends as the need arose. For fun she loved to craft. Her craft room was better stocked than Hobby Lobby, and she always had the latest and greatest in crafting gadgets. Many of her nieces and nephews have wonderful memories of the times spent with Evelyn crafting. She was extremely talented and could turn ordinary items into something beautiful and meaningful. One of the ways she showed her love was by creating beautiful cards to share with others. Evelyn also loved to share the gospel and spread the love of God to others. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher to many kids all over the country and left her mark in their hearts by planting seeds of God’s love for them.
In most recent years, Centerview Baptist Church in Jacksonville became their home church. Their Centerview Baptist family was near and dear to their hearts. A dear friend of theirs, Nancy Shephard, from Centerview Baptist said, “Jerry and Evelyn were secure in their faith, their love for the Lord, and their love for each other.” To know them was to love them.
Those left to cherish their memories are Jerry’s sisters, Shirley Fisher of Kannapolis, N.C., and Mary Ingram of China Grove, N.C.; Evelyn’s siblings, Michael “Mickey” Phillip Gainey (Lin) of Virginia and Gayle Byers (Frank) of Jacksonville, N.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Both sets of their parents preceded them in death, Andrew and Mamie Evelyn Robinson of Charlotte (Jerry) and Evelyn Roberta “Bert” Nelson Jensen and Nihram Leanzy Gainey (Evelyn). We are sure there was a glorious reunion of these precious souls when they went home. Thank you, Lord, for your grace!
“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” (Thessalonians 4:13)
