Jerry Wayne Morton, 85 of Mt. Ulla, N.C., passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House after a brief illness.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. After retiring from Hoke Lumber, Jerry continued working for over a decade during tax season at H&R Block, where he enjoyed helping others. Jerry loved baseball and college basketball, sports in general. Many times his sons were kicked out of the den so he could watch sports. And Jerry loved to go on long drives to nowhere which his grandchildren, affectionately called rambling, and his wife called lost (affectionately). He loved genealogy, and he created lots of books for family and friends about their family history.
He is survived by his sister, Dale Lowder (James); his son Todd Morton (Tracy); his stepchildren Tim (Susan), Robert (Mary), Jeff (Teresa), Frank, and Sandy (Rob); as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two beloved grand-dogs, Bubba and Prissy.
Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Delores; his son, Randy Morton; his parents, George and Noma Morton; and his brothers, Roger and Steve.
A graveside ceremony to honor the life of Jerry will be held on Sunday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Mountain Creek Primitive Baptist Church. The address is 40253 Mt. Creek Road, New London, NC 28127.
