Joann Culbertson Ammons, 86, of Mooresville, N.C., peacefully passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 27, 1939, in Burdine, Ky., to the late John D. Culbertson and Nola Jean Adams Culbertson.
Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She loved to cook and feed people, even if you weren’t hungry. She made sure no one left with an empty stomach. In her most recent years, she enjoyed sitting on her porch watching the hummingbirds and marveling at everything blooming. Her nails were always painted pink as she thought any other color would be ridiculous. She always laughed at her own jokes and would wink at you like you and her shared a secret. She loved her family fiercely and will be immensely missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Andrew Ammons; and her sister, Juanita Journey (Charles).
Joann is survived by her six children, Mark Ammons (Dori), Tim Ammons (Kim), Belinda Chatham, Courtney Spry (Todd), Windy Hooper, and Lisa Ammons; 26 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Also surviving are Joann’s sisters, Jean Adams, Jackie Jose (Joe), Judy Palos (Ben), Ella Delapaz (Randy), and Betty Lou Guevara; brother, James Culbertson (Brenda); and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 25, from 2 to 3 p.m. with a service beginning at 3 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Ammons family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
