Joann Lee Miller, 95, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the Gordan Hospice House.

Joann was born on April 1, 1930, in Alexander County to Bill and Polly Miller. She grew up in Stony Point and played basketball for Scotts High School. She spent most of her 95 years in Statesville on the family farm.

Joann was a beloved sister, cousin, and friend. She is best known for her gentle spirit, her love of animals, especially cats, and her wisdom in finding joy in everyday things. Joann lived a quiet, humble life, filled not with grand possessions but with quiet joys, small treasures, and deep love for those around her.

Joann always relished in the beauty of God’s creations no matter how simple. She was an amazing artist and spent a part of her life carefully painting Tom Clark gnomes. Joann and her sister Martha also enjoyed pouring, casting, and firing their own ceramics in their home studio. Joann spent time working at Rubbermaid and the United States Post Office.

Joann is survived by her cousins, David Miller and wife Nancy, Wilson Darel Ellis Jr., Wendy Ellis Renedo and her sons, and her best friend, Sylvia Snider (Syb), as well as other cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy and Jerry Miller, her sister and soulmate Martha Miller, and her parents, William (Bill) A. Miller and Mary E. Miller (Polly).
