Joe Roger McDaniels, 78, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday June 4, 2025, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House following an extended illness. Joe was born in Iredell County on December 6, 1946, to the late Ruben L. McDaniels and Effie May Dison McDaniels.

Joe was a truck driver, worked at several wood companies and sold at the flea market. He enjoyed watching old Westerns and classic TV shows, going to flea markets and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mildred Templeton McDaniels; one daughter, Teresa O’Brien and husband Andrew of Statesville; two brothers, Robert McDaniels and wife Elsbeth of Statesville, and Tommy McDaniels and wife Nettie of Union Grove; four grandchildren, Sarah O’Brien (Timothy Vega), Nicole O’Brien (Hunter Price), Kaitlyn O’Brien, and Miranda O’Brien; and one great-grandson on the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Grady Dison.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday June 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Georgianne Hartline will officiate. The body will lie in state on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home 2 to 4 p.m.
