
Kathy Bruner Rankin, 74, departed this life on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at The Greens at Maple Leaf. She was born in Iredell County on April 11, 1951, to the late James Alexander Bruner and Genevieve Morrison Bruner.
She attended Chestnut Grove Elementary School. She graduated from North Iredell High School in 1969 and received an Associate Degree from Mitchell Community College. She was employed and retired from Amesbury Industries Inc. She attended Freedom Presbyterian Church in Statesville and Mt. Vernon A.M.E. Zion Church.
She was married to James Edward Rankin-Shakir, who preceded her in death. Kathy was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Frances Bruner Moten, brothers, George Bruner and Alexander M. (Sonny) Bruner; special cousin, Stacey Morrison and a host of other beloved family members.
She leaves to cherish the memories of her life a son, Jomo Renard Rankin; special niece, Wanda Bruner Saner; and nieces Paula Bruner, Sherry Bruner, and Millicent Bruner; nephews, Vincent Moten (Yolanda), and Richard (Angie) Bruner; great aunt, Betty Morrison, special cousins, Evie (Deland) Myers, Renee Moore, Anita Linney, Virginia Morrison, Jerry Morrison, Hugh (Joyce) Mitchell, Ernest James, Bessie Mae Tatum, Kenneth James, William Otis James, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, church family and friends in her community.
Special thanks to the nursing staff at The Greens at Maple Leaf for the excellent care and compassion shown to my beloved mother.
Graveside Services will be conducted on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Freedom Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Statesville. Mrs. Rankin will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, 603 South Center Street, Statesville, N.C., until taken to the church for the Service.
