Laura Hampton Davis, 34, of Mooresville, N.C., left her earthly body on Sunday, August 3, 2025, after a horrific medical event.
Laura was born in Charlotte, N.C., on April 29, 1991, sharing her Uncle Steve’s birthday. She attended Paw Creek Elementary, Nathaniel Alexander Elementary, and Coulwood Middle, and graduated in 2009 from West Mecklenburg High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education with a concentration in Ceramics from Appalachian State University in December 2015. Laura was creative from infancy and saw beauty in all people and in her world. She would find joy in searching for the most perfect tiny shell or a not-so-pretty oyster shell. She began her joy of pottery under the tender direction of Trudy Hunicke, who soon learned Laura was a self-learner and she was her guide. Her Uncle Steve, Aunt Adrienne, and Grandmother Ruby were influential in her love of art.
She taught high school ceramics for three years at Chambers (then Vance) High School and another three years at Butler High School. Throughout her career, she was constantly creating beautiful artwork in her own studio and in her classroom. She was a knitter and a creative seamstress. She was known as the teacher that all students could talk to and be respected. She was filled with a yearning for equality and acceptance for all, especially her students who struggled with life choices. Some politicians will be surprised to get less emails now.
She had a deep, abiding, and wonderful relationship with her parents. She was their child, their best friend and support, and a guide in creating a better world through action and love.
Those who were very influential in her early years include Grandmother BooBoo (Betty Estes), Aunt Oooleez and Uncle Gene (Louise and Gene Warren) and Debbie Hursey, who was the first one to hold her as a baby. They are related through love not blood.
While her 34 years on this earth were far too short, her compassion, joy, and kindness made countless friends and loved ones. Laura’s constant care for others in the midst of her own courageous battles with scoliosis and mental health issues would often result in her encouraging you to get the help that you need in your own battles.
Left here to cherish her memories are her parents, Kent and Pam Davis; her uncles Steve (Karen) Davis and Eric (Adrienne) Davis; cousins, Kolby (Danica) Kramer, Lacey (Chris) Kuehn and Easton, Lillian (Zach) Davis, Reid Davis, Neill Blue Davis; her best friend, Sara Zagar; her family by love not blood, Stan and Michelle Brown, Seth (Lauren) Brown, J.P. (Lauren) Brown; and her precious pom, Louie.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe and Wilma Davis, and Chester and Ruby Jech; her Aunt Cheryl Jech Kramer; and Uncle Bill Jech.
We will celebrate Laura and the gift that her life was to all of us at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Mooresville, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice that will make a difference in someone you love’s life.
