Linda Powers Key, 85, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on July 22, 2025, at The Greens at Mapleleaf. She had been under the loving care of Hospice of Iredell County.

She was born in Fayette, Ala., on October 30, 1939, to parents James Key and Zoe Pinion. She had a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Marywood College in New York. She helped many people through difficult times. She was of the Unitarian Universalism faith

She is survived by four children, Don Hicks (Bonny) of Tybee Island, Ga., Marybeth White (Sidney), Paul Hicks (Jenny) of Matthews, N.C., and Martha Darnaby of Roundrock, Texas; three grandchildren, Megan Whitlow, Amanda Casa, Chandler White, and Austin Darnaby. She had two great grandchildren, Miles Whitlow and Natalie Whitlow.

Her cremation will be held at Charlotte Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial will be held at a later time.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County or any charity of their choice.
