Lowndes Bush Grier Jr., 65, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, at his residence. He was born January 27, 1960, in Iredell County to the late Lowndes Bush Grier Sr. and Helen Hodgson Grier.

Lowndes was a graduate of Statesville High School, Class of 1978, as well as UNC-Charlotte. He was a gifted writer, with a broad background in History and English, and he expressed many theories, beliefs, and feelings in his writing. He had an abundance of short stories and screenplays. When Lowndes wasn’t writing, he was playing guitar in the original rock group Paradise Lost, in which he authored over 100 songs. Lowndes was also a Civil War expert and had collected many facts about the battles.

Left to cherish Lowndes’ memory are his cousins, John Epperson and Jim Epperson Jr. (Frankie), both of Statesville, N.C., and Sarah G. Barber and J.T. Grier, both in the Richmond, Va., area, and Rich Ognovich of Linville, N.C.

A Gathering of Friends will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 8, at Troutman Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First ARP Church, PO Box 1607, Statesville, NC 28687.
