Mary Ann Wingate Fleming, 66, of Mooresville, N.C., passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, November 14, 2025. She was born August 12, 1959, in Bamburg, Germany. Mary Ann follows her parents, Robert and Anna Wingate, to heaven as well as her cherished grandma, Camie Wingate.

Mary Ann was the beloved wife of Billy Fleming for 43 years. They treasured time together at home, often enjoying some of her favorite meals like Billy’s homemade oyster stew. They enjoyed retirement to its fullest for many years at their “BillMar” coastal retreat near Southport. Mary Ann and Billy also loved adventures up in the mountains. Their memorable trip of a lifetime was to visit Mary Ann’s extended family in Germany.

Mary Ann was a caring and proud Mom to Karl Fleming (Courtney) of Statesville, Hans Fleming of Mount Mourne and Brandy Fleming (Darby) of Durham. She will be missed as a sister to Charles Wingate (Ginny) of Davidson. Mary Ann’s beloved kitty Mo will also be lost without her.

While she had many important titles, Oma was her favorite. She truly loved to shower her grandchildren with gifts and attention. She will be dearly missed by grandchildren Joseph, Jacob and Adaleigh. From helping them build magical fairy and gnome gardens in the backyard to taking them to see their first rodeo, a day with Oma was always a fun day.

An herbalist and healer at heart, Mary Ann was a creative spirit and once owned a beautiful shop called Country by Nature. She helped connect others with the wisdom and intuition of the earth and our ancestors. She was also a lover of animals, owning many horses, including John Henry and Chancy.

The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to all the health caregivers and angels who touched Mary Ann’s life in the past few months.

At her request, there will be no formal service. A celebration of life will be held after the holidays.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to honor Mary Ann’s love of animals and her faithful kindness: Rescue Ranch, 1424 Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, NC 28625 (https://www.rescueranch.com/give/); and Trinity Baptist Church, PO Box 3365, Mooresville, NC 28117 (https://trinitybaptist.com/give/)
