Mary Shreves Crow, 69, of Huntersville, N.C., passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025. She was born on November 7, 1955, to the late Donald Paul Shreves and Stella Zannino Shreves in Clarksburg, W.Va.

After a foundation year at Columbus College of Art and Design, she earned her BFA in painting and printmaking from West Virginia University. Early in her career she worked mapping the Appalachian Trail and Henrico County, Va., and doing courtroom art. She spent a summer doing caricatures, and did stained glass work independently and in studios, in addition to painting. When living in Wilmington, N.C., she developed an interest in ceramic sculpture, and studied with Hiroshi Sueyoshi. She developed her own style of sculpture and made everything from whimsical earrings and wall hangings to small and large vases, bowls, and sculptures. From contests to wholesale shows, her work ended up around the country and in other countries. Later, her focus switched back to painting, and she did many portraits of people, pets, and landscapes – she loved working plein-aire, and still lifes. She often incorporated her love of nature and her faith into her artwork.

Mary was a dedicated member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, N.C.

Those left to cherish Mary’s memory are her loving husband of 43 years, Thomas Flynn Crow; daughter, Madeline McClelland Crow Packard (Sam); sisters, Michelle Lilly, and Melissa Shreves Shahnam (Mehrdad); brother, Donald Shreves (Tracie Reihm); brother-in-law, John Crow (Fran); sister-in-law, Carol Casto (Tom); aunt, Marcie Smith; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
