Mary Ruth Karriker Owens, 92, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away at her home on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Mary Ruth was born December 31, 1932, to the late Ervin Alexander Karriker and Margaret Chambers Karriker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; brothers Paul, Jack, Jim and Jerry; and sisters, Ann, Alice Nell, Hazel, Rachel and Judy. She attended Landis High School and lived in Rowan County all of her life.

On February 19, 1950, Mary Ruth was married to Jack Daniel Owens, and they recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Mary Ruth was a lifelong, baptized member of Concordia Lutheran Church, teaching the youth and preparing many meals alongside friends for various church functions.

Mary Ruth retired from Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis working in the Washcloth Department. Mary Ruth certainly never retired from her favorite activity of crafting. Throughout her life she sewed, embroidered, quilted, and fashioned cards, refrigerator magnets and Christmas ornaments. Even up until a few days of her passing, handmade Easter cards made their way to the mailbox to be delivered to loved ones. Countless hours were spent in the garden raising vegetables and beautiful flowers. Everyone enjoyed the homemade food Mary Ruth canned and cooked. Mary Ruth and Jack also loved to travel to the Amish countryside in Pennsylvania to visit their cherished Amish friends.

Mary Ruth is survived by son, Danny Owens; daughter, Doris Goodnight; and sister Carolyn Timms. Also left to cherish their loving grandmother are five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Larry Bost and Rev. Carlin Ours will take place at Concordia Lutheran Church, China Grove, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Following the service, family will receive friends in the Family Life Center.
