Michael Anthony Heaggans, 61, was born in Statesville, N.C., on October 18, 1963. He was the son of the late Charlie “Sam” and Velma Heaggans. He passed away at Iredell Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Michael was a graduate of Statesville High School, where he played football, At the age of 16, he worked at Sherrill’s Supermarket, where he worked until he graduated high school. He worked at Rubbermaid and Hunt Manufacturing, where he worked for 15 years, and RHA until his untimely death.

Michael was very committed to working and even if he was not feeling well he was going to show up faithfully. RHA was special to him and he enjoyed working there. He would take care of his clients as if they were his own. They joined our family on holidays, family functions and were our family.

Michael had a heart of gold, and everything he did for you came from that place. Michael was a jokester and loved to play with everyone. His smile was infectious and would light up a room. He loved smiling at the ladies and making everyone feel special. He was about fun and love. He loved to fish and play cards, and he loved playing the Lottery.

Michael was an awesome dad, a great brother and cousin. He and Little Michael would talk daily and all day long. The way he took care of his sister Rita Mae was unmatched. Rita didn’t have to worry about a ride or lifting a bag at the store or in the house. It was awesome to see the love he spread through all he touched. He would always pick on Charlette about being a tattle tail. They both loved fishing, but picking and laughing is what they did.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Eckels Heaggans, and a brother, Marshall Miller.

He leaves to cherish and celebrate the memory of his life, two sons, Michael Tyrone Heaggans of Statesville and Latravian DeShawn Heaggans of Hickory; three sisters, Charlette Harrell of Statesville, Teresa Smith of Statesville, and Rita Mae Heaggans of Statesville; five brothers, Warren Bernard Heaggans of Statesville, Ronald (Rheda) Heaggans of Missour, Wayne (Vanessa) Heaggans of Cleveland, and Anthony Oscar Reddick of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Trae Heaggans and Jaylen Heaggans; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of relatives, and friends. We also want to mention the clients he cared for at RHA. They were very near and dear to his heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville, N.C. The visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m., and the eulogy will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church cemetery.
