Marshall “Mickey” Lee Godfrey, 82, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Mickey was born November 7, 1942, in Iredell County to the late Franklin Godfrey and Hattie Sigmon Godfrey.
He attended both Diamond Hill Baptist Church and Covenant Grace Baptist Church in Wilkesboro, and he owned and operated Godfrey Tree Service for more than 50 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, camping and hiking with his son and grandsons. He enjoyed his travels with his wife Ann, especially visiting the Pennsylvania Amish Country, Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, and New York City. Mickey loved life and he “loved the art of the deal.”
In addition to his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ann Holt Sherrill Godfrey, and grandson, Samuel Godfrey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sherrill Ann Godfrey of Statesville, and Jane Godfrey Scalese of Spring Lake, N.C.; son, Josh Godfrey (Tammy) of Statesville; grandchildren, John McKinney, Margaret McKinney Wheeler (Al), Will Godfrey, and Elizabeth Godfrey.
The family would like to express their great appreciation for the caregivers at the end of Mickey’s life.
Funeral services for Mickey will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Larry Holleman officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Will Godfrey, John McKinney, Jason West, Bobby Hendricks, Jeff Campbell, and Phillip Lowe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
