Mildred “Millie” Torcasso Capel, 84, of Mooresville, N.C., and formerly of Jenson Beach, Fla., and West Hempstead, N.Y., entered into rest to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. She passed away peacefully in her home at Cadence Assisted Living in Mooresville. Millie was preceded in death by her beloved husband George Capel and her parents, Mildred and Joseph Geraci.
Millie had a full career, which started in her home while raising her four sons. She began her professional career taking on home typing assignments part time in the evenings to earn extra income. She typed over 80 words per minute. Once her sons grew a little older, she worked as a school bus driver for the public school system. Several years later, she made a pivotal decision to go back to school to become an early childhood public elementary school teacher. She was a paraprofessional for several years. Then she became a teacher serving kindergarten through fifth-grade students until retirement. Most of her years as being an educator were teaching second- and third-graders, which were her favorite age group. Over her teaching career, she taught over 300 students. Additionally, she was a server for a short period of time at Red Lobster, working a couple of shifts a week alongside her son, Gary. Millie was a proud graduate from Queens College in Flushing, N.Y., where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and her Master of Science degree in Education. She then earned 30 credits above her master’s degree, all while raising four sons.
Millie truly was a jack of all trades and led such a full life. She had many hobbies and interests that she enjoyed during her free time. Millie loved ceramics, knitting, crocheting, bowling, gardening in her beautiful yard, fishing, dancing, painting, card playing (Oklahoma Rummy), playing dominoes (Mexican Train), plane gliding, parasailing, hot air ballooning, baking and cooking. She even went to clown school to perform as a clown for events. Millie was a member of the Elks Club and led many of their events and activities. At the end of her day, at 5 o’clock on the dot, she enjoyed an Apple Martini! Millie loved traveling the world with her husband George Capel. They loved taking cruises together; especially with their friends and family. During retirement, Millie and her husband would spend months at a time traveling cross-country in their RV with their pet dog, visiting almost every city in the U.S. She loved being outdoors on her journeys and meeting people from all over the world.
Millie’s family was extremely important to her. She sacrificed so much to raise four successful sons to give them the best life possible. She made it a point to live life to the fullest and certainly did so.
Millie is survived by her loving brother, Joseph Geraci; her sons, Anthony Torcasso, Joseph Torcasso, Michael Torcasso and Gary Torcasso; her daughters-in-law, Angela Torcasso, Cyndi Torcasso and Barbara Torcasso; her son-in-law, Mark Robles; her grandchildren, Anthony Torcasso Jr., Taylor Torcasso, Joseph Torcasso, Amanda Torcasso, and Marissa Torcasso; and her great grandson, Blivion Torcasso.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the Hospice nurses, physicians and staff, her family and friends for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care that was provided. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
