It’s with sadness we announce that Richard Joseph Ruzewski Sr. passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at the age of 86.
Richard was born to parents Bernard and Victoria Ruzewski on February 23, 1939 in Cheektowaga, N.Y. He grew up in a family of four brothers. He served his country proudly as U.S. veteran, and also his hometown as a volunteer firefighter at the Jamison Road Fire Department in Elma, N.Y. On May 9, 1964, he married Rita Jean Renzoni. They raised their two sons in Elma, N.Y., preceding their retirement later in life in Mooresville, N.C.
Richard was a hardworking and social man who worked tirelessly to support his family. He was incredibly proud of his two sons, frequently sharing stories of their accomplishments. He was an active member of the Catholic Church — St. Vincent de Paul in New York and St. Therese in North Carolina. Richard was an excellent baker, known for his large collection of holiday cookies at Christmas. He was passionate about sports. You could always catch him watching football (Bills), basketball or racing. Richard also loved to hunt as well as everything outdoors. He looked forward to his annual hunting trips with family and friends. He spent his later years making new friends, playing scorekeeper for games, and watching the lake with his two fluffy friends.
He is survived by his children; Richard Jr. and Ronald, and his grandchildren; Taylor and Kenzie.
At Richard’s request, his body will be cremated. Services will be held at a later date to celebrate Richard’s life.
