Born October 8, 1964, in Iredell County, N.C., Ritchie Pernell Mackin was the beloved son of Frances Mae Alexander Works and the late Robert Lee “Bob” Mackin. Ritchie peacefully departed this life on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Crown Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte, N.C., where he had been a resident for a brief time. Prior to this, he spent much of his adult life at VOCA/ResCare Community Living in Charlotte, where he was surrounded by care and community.

Ritchie received his certificate of completion from Metro Vocational School in Charlotte. He was truly a special soul — loving, caring, and full of joy. For many years, he worked at the Nevins Center in Charlotte as a merchandise assembler, where his cheerful spirit and infectious humor made him a favorite among peers and staff alike. Ritchie had a gift for making people laugh, often becoming the center of attention just to brighten someone’s day. He loved dancing, music, and singing, even if carrying a tune wasn’t quite his forte. His simple pleasures included Diet Coke, pizza, hot dogs, and chocolate cake — treats that brought him joy. To know Ritchie was to love him, and his absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Ritchie is survived by his devoted mother, Frances Mae Alexander Works; his brother, Robert Wayne Mackin (Pansy) of Charlotte; and his sister, Debbie Mackin Moss (James) of Concord, N.C. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Christopher Bernard Mackin, Terry Lewis Mackin, and Desi Franklin Mackin. He also leaves behind his aunt Susie Freeman (Leon), several nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation go to Miracle Davis, Earnest Vannah, Brittany Coe, and Lenora King of VOCA/ResCare Community Living for their unwavering care and compassion toward Ritchie each and every day.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Columbus Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery 15501 Davidson Concord Road #73, Davidson, NC 28036.
