Rodrick “Rod” Wayne Purser, 67, went to be with the Lord and his beloved friends and family on Sunday morning, November 16, 2025.

He was born in Concord, N.C., son of the late Claude Purser and Doris Rodgers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Oliver Goodeaux, and his niece, Amanda Purser.

Ever a jokester and healer by nature, Rod was an endless provider of humor and laughter to all those around him. He was a patient listener to anyone who needed him, and he rarely if ever met a stranger that he couldn’t get a smile or a laugh out of.

He spent many of his younger years playing music and cultivating his talent in that artistic medium, with the guitar being his instrument of choice, but he was skilled in others such as the saxophone. He even debuted in a few bands in his day, including the Carisma Band — to name one. He often spent much of his days strumming his cherished guitars.

He truly was a man who lived by the adage “take the time to stop and smell the roses.” He’d often sit on his deck in the mornings and evenings, simply immersing himself in all the sights and sounds of nature. Rod would have people over, and they’d end up talking for hours.

Most important to him were his friends and family. He loved everyone that made up the community around him, and he will always be remembered as a kind, funny, charismatic father, friend, brother, and uncle. He will surely be missed by many.

He leaves a legacy in those he loves, including his son, his brother and sister, his niece and nephew, and all his friends and family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 21, from 12 to 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service following at 1 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville. A graveside service will follow the service at 3 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery of Concord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s foundation or the Michael J Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Purser family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
