Ruth Dill Calabrese, 96, of Troutman, N.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Ruth was born in Newark, N.J., to the late John Dill and Helen Sandquist Dill. She dedicated over 35 years of her life as a teacher’s assistant with the New Brunswick, N.J., school system. Her most rewarding years were spent working with Special Education students, where her compassion and patience made a lasting impact.

A woman of deep faith, Ruth taught Sunday School for more than 25 years at the First Reformed Church in New Brunswick and also served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. Teaching and working with children were her greatest passions. Ruth also had a lifelong love of horses and enjoyed watching her favorite cowboy shows, especially Walker, Texas Ranger.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Tom Calabrese, as well as her brothers John Dill Jr., Richard Dill, Robert Dill, and Donald Dill.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Ken) Bossert of Mooresville, N.C.; her son, Thomas J. (Marian) Calabrese of West Keansburg, N.J.; and her sister, Doris Wilson of Indian Land, S.C.. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Heather Bossert (Patrick Alcisto), Bobby (Karli) Bossert, Thomas, John, and Michael Calabrese, and five great-grandchildren: Thomas, Adrian, Ally, Charlotte, and Eric.

Ruth was a member of New Perth ARP Church in Troutman.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at New Perth ARP Church in Troutman. Details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Horse Protection Society of North Carolina.

Troutman Funeral Home is serving the Calabrese family.
