
Shirley Pope Sigmon, 88, of Statesville, N.C., passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Autumn Care of Statesville following an extended illness. Shirley was born in Iredell County on December 11, 1936, to the late Olen Ray Pope and Janie Mae Stewart Pope. She attended Broad Street Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Sigmon; one son, Tony Alton Sigmon; three brothers, Brice Eugene Pope and wife Gaye, Ray Pope, and Hubert Leo Pope and wife Allien Mayhew Pope; two sisters, Elgie Pope Whitaker and Dorothy Grisanti; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Sigmon Morrow and Lois Sigmon Sharpe; and one brother-in-law, Billy Roy Sigmon.
Survivors include four sons, Larry James Sigmon and wife Sandey Thompson Sigmon of Thurmond, Philip Scott Sigmon and wife Nancy Sherrill Sigmon of Catawba, Wayne Olin Sigmon of Statesville, and Patrick Sigmon of Statesville; one brother, Fairley Pope of Alexander County; four sisters, Loretta Pope Hedrick of Claremont, Zula Pope Bolick of Claremont, Eunice Sherill of Lincolnton, and Betty Hewitt of Hickory.; five grandchildren, Cody James Sigmon, Emily Grace Sigmon, Kaylyn Sigmon, Angela Sigmon Lancaster, and Laura Sigmon Arney; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Lee Lancaster and Malia Lancaster; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Pope, Elaine Sigmon Johnson, and Jeanie Sigmon Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Carson will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Lutheran Church (5300 Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681). The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Sigmon Family (158 Stony Point School Road, Stony Point, NC 28678).
