Shirley Sue Sherrill Bustle, 90, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at The Greens at Maple Leaf in Statesville. Shirley was born August 21,1934, in Iredell County to the late Hollis Bell Sherrill and Mary Ann Rash Sherrill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Everett Bustle, and her granddaughter, Sybil Marie Sherrill Neaves.
A member of Beulah Baptist Church since 1948, Shirley served as a youth leader, teacher for Sunday School, Training Union, and Vacation Bible School, and she was a co-founder of the Church’s Library in the early 1960s.
Shirley loved God and followed his word as closely as she could in her earthly life. She touched many lives in His name. God’s love was spread through spoken word and countless actions.
After graduating from Troutman High School in 1952, Shirley worked for Southern Bell as an operator in Charlotte, N.C. Her husband Allen returned from serving in the Army in Korea later that year. The two moved back to Statesville. Shirley worked at Hunter Brother Manufacturing from then until the company was sold and moved to New York in 1988. She then went to work at Heritage Knitting until her retirement in 2006.
Shirley loved her family. She is survived by her son Jonathan Bustle of New York; daughter Sybil Tyson of Georgia; granddaughter Miranda Neaves; grandsons Allen Neaves, Tim Bustle, Joshua Tyson and Jerry Tyson; great-granddaughter Kelsey Bean; and great-grandsons Ryan Neaves, Timothy Murray, Allen Neaves and Edward Tyson. She is also survived by sisters Edith Faust and Hazel Sherrill and brother Donald Sherrill, along with various nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June11, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at Beulah Baptist Church on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at church cemetery.

Shirley leaves a legacy of serving God and caring for people. When the phone rang on my birthday, I knew it was going to be Shirley. She will be missed! My prayers are with her family and all who loved her.
