Sonja Faye Anderson Beaver of Ostwalt Amity Road, Troutman, N.C., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.
She married the love of her life, Harold Lloyd Beaver, on August 31, 1957, and they were married for over 50 years until his passing in 2008.
Sonja was born on July 31, 1939, in Statesville, N.C., to Allen Rhine Moore and Grace Ellen Anderson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Wesley Cowan (Lebe) Wood.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Beaver Armstrong (Ron) of Troutman and Carla Beaver Lapish of Statesville. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Amy A. Porter (Michael) and Kyle Chapman (Amber) of Statesville, Kohl and Kaylee Lapish of Charlotte, and Dakota (Kody) Armstrong of Troutman. Sonja is further survived by six great grandchildren, Nolan and Delayni Porter, as well as Landon, Braelyn, Grey and Hardy Chapman, all of Statesville. Mrs. Beaver is also survived by two brothers, Wayne (Linda) Moore and Randy (Karen) Moore of Kannapolis, along with many nieces and nephews.
Sonja found joy working in her yard and helping others. She volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross. She also taught school at Amity and Wayside Elementary. She was the manager of Happy Days Childcare in Troutman and co-owner of Design Jewelers in Downtown Statesville for a number of years. She loved her church family and was a longtime member of Vanderburg Methodist Church in Mooresville, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was the Building Fund Chairperson for many years. Sonja was a wonderful Southern cook and enjoyed blessing many friends and family members with her delicious meals. She was a graduating member of the great “Class of ’57” at Statesville Senior High.
The family would like to say a special word of thanks to Sonja’s medical team; especially Emily Tuthill, FNP at Statesville Primary Care and Dr. Bradley Martin at Statesville Cardiovascular, as well as a special friend and neighbor, Jamey Rimmer and her family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, from 2 to 3 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m. at Vanderburg Methodist Church with Pastor Melanie Nichols officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
