Valeria Francine Scott McCullough passed away in the peace of her own home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, following post-op surgery complications after a battle with an illness. Mrs. McCullough was born in Iredell County on March 20, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Dorothy Summers Scott. She was married to DeWayne McCullough, who preceded her in death.

She also, was preceded in death by her grandparents, David and Ora Mae Scott, and Bert and Mary Holmes Summers; two sisters, Barbara Mae Scott and Julia Ann Scott; a brother, Charles Anthony Scott; a nephew, Ali McCullough; a brother-in-law, Larry E. Tomlin; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Scott.

Affectionately called “Bit,” Valeria attended Unity but was a graduate of North Iredell High School, Class of 1969. She also attended Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C. She was retired from Iredell-Statesville Schools. She also worked at Lifespan, working with Exceptional Children. She was employed at Diverse Care. She was an outgoing member of her community. Francine was a lifetime member of the Holsey Memorial CME Church, where she faithfully served her church as a member of the Usher Board, Social Concerns, Missionary Society, Board of Evangelism, Board of Christian Education, and the Senior Choir. Mrs. McCullough also helped her community by going around to visit with the sick and shut-in and was a member of the Garfield Senior Citizens. She was an avid reader and her favorite pastime was going to play bingo and clicking.

She leaves behind to cherish the memories of her life a loving son, Andre (Donna) McCullough; a loving daughter, Keidra McCullough of the home; three sisters, Robin Scott Tomlin, Marilyn (Archie) Darty, and Crystal Scott; a brother, Robert Scott; special sisters, Veronica McCombs, Jamilah Morris, Tammy Curry, Vivian (Clarence) Mundy Paige, Dianne Gilbert, Darlene (Pete) Miller, Peggie Rucker, and Rhonda Thompson; a special brother, Larry McIntosh; four grandchildren, Dorian Andre McCullough, Dalten Gage McCullough, Dredon Lamar McCullough and Drayke Milton McCullough. Mrs. McCullough had a host of nieces and nephews, Tashika Tomlin, Dennis Scott, Anthony Scott, Larry K. Tomlin, Charles Scott, James Scott, Robinette Scott, Kyra Tomlin, Diamond (William Worley) Scott, Ashley Scott, Bryan Page, Monica Page, Malik McCullough, Darrell McCombs and Emiel McCullough; a special great grand-niece, Gerren Tomlin, who knew her as “Grandmaw,” as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, Ki’mora Scott, Elijah Krider, James Scott, Bubbie Mintz, Kelan Scott, Bella Grace, Khian Rain Tomlin, Julian Scott, Rona Charlie Scott, Kairo Vasquez and Winston Worley; special uncles, Theodore “Babe” Scott and Elliot Stevenson, all of New York; as well as special cousins, Fred Scott, Edwin Scott, Teresa Norman, Debbie Ann Adams, Traci Summers, Freddie Morrison, Joan Daniels, Josephine Miller, Ora Daniels-Merritt (William),Thelma Scott-Neely, Jo-Evelyn Summers, Angela (Robert) Long and children, Diane (Germaine) Woods, and children, Trevis Morrison and Regenia Morrison-Skinner; special friends, Marsha Peet, Beverly Ann Culler, and Gloria Foote; as well as a host of cousins and other relatives, church family, neighbors, and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Holsey Memorial CME Church, with Reverend Jeffery Daniels officiating and Reverend McCulloum delivering the eulogy. Mrs. McCullough will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state thirty minutes prior to the visitation, on Monday, June 16, 2025. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church, but will assemble at the residence at other times. A burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery.
