Van Edward Rickard, 72, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at his home.

He was born on October 9, 1953, in Thomasville, N.C., to N.E. “Buck” Rickard and June Venable Rickard. He grew up in the Hubert and Swansboro area and moved back to Thomasville after high school. He worked for Thomas Bus for many years prior to moving to New Jersey to go into the furniture business.

He was preceded in death by his father, Buck; his mother, June; and his younger sister, Jennifer Rickard Martell.

He is survived by two sons, Casey Rickard (wife Nami) and Jake Rickard in New Jersey; sister, Teresa Ritter and her husband Kelly Ritter of Durham, N.C.; nephews, Jeremy Hayes and Tommy Hayes; and his brother-in-law, Frank Martell of Winston-Salem, N.C.. He is also survived by his life partner, Kathy Mack of Mooresville, N.C.

A Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 15, at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Van would be honored for friends and family to give a donation to the charity of their choice in his memory.
