It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia Lee Davis Allen, a devoted mother, beloved sister and loyal friend, who left us on July 23, 2025, to be with our Saviour. Born on July 3, 1944, in Mecklenburg County, N.C., Jenny, as she was affectionately known, lived a life full of love and devotion, undaunted by life’s many challenges.
Jenny was the daughter of Irvington Lee Davis and Hettie Guy Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Albert (Mickey) Davis, sister Barbara Davis Osborne, former husband James Bryan Allen, and brother (in-law) Russell Burchett. Jenny is survived by her sister, Wanda Kay Burchett, youngest daughter Stacy Allen Sawyer and partner Ryan Guidry, her eldest daughter, Angela Allen Holtzclaw and her husband Timothy. She will be forever missed by her cherished grandson, Jeremy Allen Holtzclaw. The love, courage, and strength she fostered within her family will be her enduring legacy.
A 1962 graduate of Mooresville High School, Jenny embraced the world with a sense of purpose. For two decades, she served as an Air Force wife, supporting her husband and family.
Jenny’s professional journey began much later in life, working for textile industries such as Draymore, Fieldcrest Cannon, and Pillowtech, meeting new friends and demonstrating a tremendous work ethic. Her most cherished role, however, was in Child Nutrition Services for the Mooresville Graded School District. Her contributions were recognized when she received the esteemed East Mooresville Intermediate School Nutrition Employee of the Year Award in both 2014 and 2017, a testament to her unwavering commitment to nurturing the children of her community.
A member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Jenny was known for her humble and reserved nature. She found joy in hosting family gatherings, contributing to the church “Chicken and Dumpling” dinners, and making cakes to show love and appreciation. She was affectionately nicknamed the “brownie lady” for weekly contributions to the social gatherings at the Senior Center. Every Thursday, she eagerly participated in various card games, relishing the laughter and camaraderie.
Jenny’s warm spirit and generous heart touched many lives. She was always ready to feed others, finding joy in nurturing those around her and offering sweet treats to bring smiles. Her kindness extended beyond her family, as she engaged with those around her, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A memorial service to honor Jenny’s life will be held on August 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, in Mooresville, officiated by Pastor Debbie Connelly, and organized by Cavin-Cook Funeral Services. Friends and family are encouraged to gather and share their memories of Jenny, as we celebrate the remarkable life she led.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Park Avenue United Methodist Church or Food for Days to honor her “Need to Feed.”
