
Anna Claudine Carpenter Avery, 90, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Trinity Village. She was born September 26, 1935, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Delma Ray Carpenter and Luna Zora Matlock Carpenter.
Claudine graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in science and was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville. During her working career, she was a social worker and volunteer coordinator at Hospice of Alexander County. She was the first paid director of Christian Crisis Center in Taylorsville. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star #58 and Stony Point DAV.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonso C. Avery III (former Mayor of Delray Beach, Fla.); and her brothers, Jimmie Lee Carpenter and Wayne Price Carpenter.
Those left to cherish and honor her memories include her sister-in-law, Carolyn Carpenter; and her beloved and trusted friend, Bernard Bourbonniere.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Scott Hensen will officiate. Inurnment will be for the family.
