Dewey Douglas Lafayette Waters Sr., born on September 5, 1941, in East LaPorte, N.C., passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 84, in Statesville, N.C.

He pursued higher education with an undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University and a master’s degree in Industrial Arts from Appalachian State University. His career was marked by roles as a university instructor and in sales.

Dewey had a keen interest in the internet, which he enjoyed exploring in his personal time.

He is survived by his wife of five years, Anne Waters of the home; his son, Dewey “Doug” Waters Jr. of the home; his daughters, Cathy McCracken (Jeff) and Karen Waters; and his stepdaughter, Melody Beach. Dewey also leaves behind a granddaughter, Logan Holt.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Janice Hyder Waters; his father, Thomas Waters; his mother, Fannie Kephart Waters; five brothers; and his stepson, Byron Andrew Beach.
