Douglas Michael “Mike” Benfield Sr., 74, of Hiddenite, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at his home. He was born May 13, 1951, in Caldwell County, the son of the late Ray Benfield and Alma Teague Benfield.

Mike attended Taylorsville High School and was a retired truck driver of 30-plus years. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of Linney;s Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Max Benfield.

Those left to cherish and honor Mike’s memories include his wife, Doris Burch Benfield; his sons, Michael Benfield and wife Jennie, and Jerrod Benfield; his grandchildren, Jamison Benfield, Esther Benfield, Eleck Benfield, Kendall Benfield, Micah Martin, and Hunter Martin; a great-granddaughter, Ellora Teague; his sister, Judy Little (Harry); and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m. Pastor Curt Miller, Dr. Marcus Benfield, and Pastor Chris Benfield will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
