Gary Edwin Colborne, 81, of Stony Point, N.C., unexpectedly passed away at home on January 3, 2026. He was born on February 16, 1944, in Bridgeport, Conn., to the late Arthur Colborne and his wife Helen. Gary worked as a maintenance supervisor at Warlick Paint during his life.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Ross Colborne; his daughter, Julie Anne Meagher; his grandson, Richard Colborne; and his great-granddaughter, Audrey Colborne.
Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Colborne of the home; his three sons, David Colborne and wife Jenoa of Stony Point, Bryon Colborne and wife Colleen of Connecticut, and Paul Earnest and wife Samantha of Stony Point; his daughter, Michelle Colborne of Statesville; his twelve loving grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Those closest to Gary will remember him for his dry sense of humor, his strong opinions, and a steady, practical kind of love that didn’t need big speeches to be real. He cared by showing up, staying calm when others might panic, and quietly doing what needed to be done. Family memories include his love of smoked Boston butt and his “secret” BBQ sauce, the familiar sight of him in his recliner watching everything, and the way he supported his loved ones in his own unmistakable style—consistent, loyal, and unforgettable.
He loved Susan—completely and without limits. Their bond was constant and unshakable, and anyone who spent time around them could see she was the center of his world. At home, Gary loved tending to his farm and was often found on his lawnmower or tractor. Beyond that, he poured himself into the communities and hobbies he enjoyed, starting with amateur radio, where he was a well-known and dedicated presence. He also valued his involvement with the British Car Club and was a loyal fan of the UConn Huskies and NASCAR.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Silver Beech Farm and sent in care of Chapman Funeral Home, 158 Stony Point School Road, Stony Point, NC 28678.
