With heavy hearts, we share the passing of George Clifford Bunch on April 9, 2026, following a brief illness. George was born on March 10, 1954, in Bristol, Tenn., and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
George spent his career caring for others as a security guard at Iredell Memorial Hospital and Mitchell Community College. He was known for his steady presence, kind heart, and the quiet way he looked out for those around him. He attended Pfeiffer College and Appalachian State University and was a firm believer in God, a faith that guided his life.
George had a special love for music, especially classical, and had a remarkable talent for playing stringed instruments. He enjoyed cheering for both the University of North Carolina and Duke University and found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cats, the beauty of the mountains, classic cars, and a good game of Rook.
Family was at the center of George’s life. He looked forward to attending the annual Hartman Reunions in Farmington, where he treasured time spent with those he loved.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Brown Bunch Jr. and Josephine Hartman Bunch-Sande; and his cousin, Benny Hartman. He is survived by his brother, Robert Brown Bunch III; his nieces, Hilary Bunch-Johnson and Robyn Mitchell; and his cousins Charles Hartman, Wanda Rowe, Ruth Zink, Peggy Blocker, Guy Jr. Hartman, Ann Masi, and Guynette Hartman.
A visitation will be held on April 18, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville, N.C., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m.
George will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his faith, and the love he had for his family. His presence brought comfort to others, and his memory will be cherished always.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bunch family.
