Geraldine Bost Dagenhart, 88, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Born on May 1, 1937, in Iredell County, N.C., Gerry was the daughter of the late Grier William and Velma Elmina Waugh Bost. She graduated from Scotts High School in 1955. On Christmas Eve 1955, she married Charles Franklin “Shorty” Dagenhart, who preceded her in death after 59 years of marriage. During her career, she worked for Concord Presbyterian Church and Davis Hospital, and she retired from the Iredell-Statesville School System. She also worked at Belk Department Store to keep her grandchildren supplied with gifts. While a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for over 80 years, she held many positions, including her last few years as church treasurer.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gerry was preceded in death by a son, Harold Lamarr (Hal) Dagenhart, and a brother, Grier Lamarr (Butch) Bost.

She is survived by three sons, Charles William (Chuck) Dagenhart (Betsy), Robert Franklin (Bobby) Dagenhart (Barbara), and Jeffery Lynn (Jeff) Dagenhart; a daughter-in-law, Shannon Long Dagenhart; eight grandchildren, Brennan Dagenhart (Alicia), Patterson Dagenhart (Chris Winters), Drew Dagenhart, Lee Dagenhart McLean (Ed), Brittian Dagenhart, Lindsey McClain (Eric), Jennifer Henline (Rusty), and Justin Dagenhart (Bri); and five great grandchildren, Macie Dagenhart, MJ McClain, Evy McClain, Chloe Angle, and Kale Angle. She is also survived by three fur babies, Lily, Lucky, and Lulu.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the ladies at Hospice of Iredell County and Simply Care of Iredell County. Your compassion and loving care were a great comfort to the family in the final weeks. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Doris Withers, who spent many hours as a companion to Gerry in the last few years.

A Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Denise Kilgo and Rev. Ron Setzer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethel UMC, or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County.
