Helen Rose Craddock Brown, 79, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Helen was born on October 28, 1946, to the late Joseph Sylvester Craddock and Virginia Augusta Bryant. She graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. Helen worked as an administrative assistant at Statesville Christian School, where she was known for her kindness and dedication, and she was a grandma to many. She will be affectionately remembered as “Mrs. Brown.”
Helen was a dancer at heart. She not only loved to dance but taught dance as well. Her next favorite thing to do was sing, and she never passed up an opportunity to sing with her daughter on their day trips. She also dearly loved her dog, Cookie. Every year she eagerly anticipated her annual vacation with all her family. Her favorite place was Pigeon Forge, Tenn., in a big cabin with plenty of room for each member close by her side, and she could enjoy her beloved coffee. She was actively involved at Western Avenue Baptist Church and was a proud member of the “Young at Heart” ministry and treasured the fellowship she found there.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 23 years, Atwell Brown; daughter, Kim Tharpe (Tommy); grandsons, Ryan Tharpe, Cole Tharpe and Kalab Thompson; step-son, Todd Brown; step-daughter, Kelley Kirk (Kevin); step-granddaughters, Kristin Williams (Justen) and Kari Kirk of Sparta, N.C.; sister-in-law, Amy Sue (Terry) Joyner of Roanoke Rapids; Tommy (Juliana) Morgan of Wilmington, N.C.; several cousins, and numerous close friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Roger Morris and Richard Morgan of Roanoke Rapids, and a grandson, Zachary Tharpe.
A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Spry officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6 until 8 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
