Jean Millsaps Harpe, a woman of steadfast faith and deep community roots, passed away peacefully at Davie Nursing and Rehab on April 6, 2026, following a brief illness. Born in Iredell County on October 15, 1933, to the late Gill Millsaps and Dorothy Millsaps, Jean spent her 92 years dedicated to her family and her heritage.
A profession in the field of accounting, Jean balanced her sharp mind with a heart for service. She was a familiar face at Hospice of Iredell County, where she volunteered for over 25 years, providing comfort to others in their time of need. Her pride in her lineage and community was evident through her memberships in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, as well as her early involvement with the Future Business Leaders of America.
Jean was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Floyd Edward Harpe; her parents; her sisters, Barbara Foster and Sue Carter; and her great-grandchild, Elizabeth Moody.
Her legacy of love continues through her children and their families, including her son, Eddy Harpe and wife Sandy; daughters, Carol Moody and husband Bill; and Donna Austin and husband Lee; grandchildren, Billy Moody (Stacy), Joe Moody (Danielle), Donnie Moody, Noelle Austin-Jones (Jamie), Jeanna Austin, Annalee Austin, Matt Harpe (Brittany), and Lindsey Harpe; great-grandchildren, Andrew Moody (Madisyn), Jacob Moody, Carly Billings (Justin), Josh Moody (Carina), Jessica Meyer (Matt), Hardin Harpe, Thomas Goodwin, Garrett Jones, and Parker Jones; and great-great-grandchildren, Merritt Moody, Grant Billings, Layne Meyer, Abby Moody, and Jade Trejo. She is also survived by her special niece, Teresa Nance.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Jean’s life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville. Pastors Darren Johnson and Troy Skora will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
