With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved mother, Jerrilyn Rose Smith, formerly of New Hartford, N.Y., who passed away on March 17, 2026, with her daughters by her side. She was a thoughtful, nurturing, and inspiring woman whose life was defined by her deep care for others.

Born March 3, 1947, in Manhattan, N.Y., to Milton and Ide Kirschbaum, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Lesley College and her master’s degree in education from SUNY. Jeri dedicated 35 years to teaching, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom — she maintained meaningful relationships with many of her former students, following their journeys through college and beyond. She mentored and supported new teachers, warmly taking them under her wing.

Her greatest joy was her family. She shared a deep and special bond with her two daughters, always there to listen, encourage, and cheer them on through every stage of life. She was also a proud Noni to her six grandchildren, whom she adored, keeping close tabs on their lives and celebrating every milestone. Jeri surrounded herself with a small circle of treasured friends, each one deeply loved and held close to her heart.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer and Bill Boiko of Dade City, Fla., and Melissa and Peter Casatelli of Mooresville, N.C.; and her six grandchildren, Gavin, Ayden, and Brody Morris, and Leah, Peter, and Cole Casatelli.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her devoted caregiver, Jennifer Lane, who, over four years, became a cherished friend. Her patience, kindness, and compassionate care meant the world to our family.

We are forever grateful for the love she gave us. A celebration of her life will be planned in the coming months, with details to be shared with family and friends.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is proudly serving the Smith family.
