
John “Quintin” McKnight, 97, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Born on March 9, 1929, in Mooresville, he was the son of the late John Mack McKnight and Rose Howard McKnight.
A proud veteran, Quintin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He dedicated over 40 years of his professional life as a maintenance supervisor at Mooresville Mills/Burlington Industries and later served in security with Ingersoll Rand until his retirement.
Quintin was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and maintained deep, lifelong ties with Prospect Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed being outdoors and was happiest when tending to his garden or riding his tractor. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a gentle soul and quite possibly the kindest man they ever met.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Wilson McKnight; his first wife, Elizabeth Hobbs McKnight; his daughter, Mary Rose McKnight; and his brothers, Kingsley, Maurice, Brannon, and Merrill McKnight.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey D. McKnight; his sister, Mary Margaret McKnight Overcash; his sister-in-law, Debbie Herron Whitley (Lynn); and a large, loving family of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 28, from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Gregory McIntyre and Rev. Will Gipe officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Prospect Presbyterian Church, The Shriner’s Organization, or FeedNC.
